The Unmet need in Autism: A typical child’s brain develops in a step ladder sequence. When a child is diagnosed of ASD, Child shows selective behaviour to environment. This affects their listening and attention span. To understand this better, early on in the journey, most children with Autism ignore their name being called or to unfamiliar people around them or noise around them but respond to the favourite music or favourite objects. This causes impairment in their understanding of the world, people and situation around them. So, how would a child feel in such situation? They might feel anxious or fearful. To adapt to these situation, they show restricted behaviour- means they will restrict their interaction, communication, diet, sleep. They might also show restless or hyperactive behaviour often confused as ADHD. A diagnosis of ADHD should only be considered once Autism specific strategies has been implemented. Sometimes with change in environment or with a bad experience they can have a regression of their sleep, eating, speech and irritability. During early years the brain is developing connections. India's First Playschool for Neuro-Developmental delay How does it work? Children's brains continue to develop after birth until 8 years of age. This is called the foundation of Early years skills (EYFS). A strong foundation is needed for learning. The brain develops layers by layer in a sequence. If this sequence is disrupted children present with Neurodevelopmental delay. At Geniuslane Playschool, a Trained Pediatrician assess the child and marks the diagnosis on Geniuslane software. A trained Psychologist observes and marks their (EYFS) and behavior. The software provides a parenting program on the parent's app and a classroom program delivered on the TV app. Children have repeat assessments every two months which generates a new program and identifies if children's progress is satisfactory or their home program needs more support. When children reach their 5 years milestones they are discharged to school. We provide school teacher training so they can support these children. We are providing Pediatrician training so they can aid in the Early identification of children who need this help and communicate in a clear way with families. Our Pilot project from 2018 to 2021 confirms that this process is most effective in India and children integrated into Main stream schools are able to cope, learn and perform then they would have otherwise. What is the main aim and objective of our Parenting course? 1 Understanding Repetitive Behaviour and Restricted Interests One of the key characteristics of Autism is the display of repetitive behaviors and restricted interests. While these might seem unusual to others, they are crucial aspects of an Autistic child's world. Recognizing and understanding these patterns is the first step towards creating an environment that supports their needs. 2 The Bigger Picture: How Diagnosis Helps: An Autism diagnosis provides a window into the bigger picture of how a child's brain works. It goes beyond labeling; it's a tool for understanding the unique way an Autistic individual perceives and interacts with the world. Armed with this knowledge, families and educators can tailor strategies to support the child's development effectively 3 Autism is Not a Physical Weakness or Learning Disability: It's important to emphasize that Autism does not necessarily imply physical weakness or a learning disability. Instead, it signifies a different way of processing information and experiencing the world. However, it's crucial for a Pediatrician to rule out potential associations with brain injuries or chromosomal abnormalities during the diagnostic process. 4 Why Family and School Involvement is Vital? An Autism diagnosis isn't just about the individual child; it's about creating a supportive community. Families and schools play pivotal roles in understanding and implementing strategies that cater to the unique needs of Autistic children. Working collaboratively ensures that the child's journey is met with understanding and encouragement. At this stage we provide Geniuslane BEST ( Brain Early Skill) test which provides graphic description of the child Foundation skills, Autism Specific behaviours, child's sleep, diet, independent skills and Parental Stress index. Based on the score the Parents receive specific set of videos of home intervention program on their app. The Parents have weekly support meeting to ensure compliance and support. Our goal is not just to educate but to transform, equipping parents with the tools and knowledge to effectively support their child's unique needs.
